If April showers bring May flowers, then May  brings us mother's day furniture specials.

There are two holidays every year that create peplexing problems for furniture stores as they plan event calendars. Mother's Day and Father's Day are challenging for furniture stores. It is commonly accepted that Dad on his special day would prefer not to be out shopping given a choice to set the agenda for the day.

Mother's Day on the other hand is a great opportunity for furniture stores to create mother's day furniture specials. Most moms enjoy shopping and getting them to go to a furniture store on their special day is a natural.  Certainly there are flowers and chocolate along with a nice dinner with family as gifts for dear old mom.  Gifts to avoid seem obvious but worth mentioning. Vacuum cleaners and steam irons (and anything that represents work) are definitely "no no's".

Why not consider something furniture related that will remind mom of your love and appreciation through out the year and years to come?

Starting in April, furniture stores will start advertising gifts for mom. These generally focus on home accents like hallway tables, entry way consoles, curio or collectible cabinets and even small chairs.  Lamps, table top accessores and wall art may also be good options for mom. Pulaski Furniture has some of the best curio and collectible cabinets in the market today.

Here are some examples of these items we recently "spyed" at the High Point N, C. spring furniture market and tradeshow. Learn more on how to use accent furniture pieces effectively.

Now the fun part of giving mom something home furnishings related is actually taking her with you to pick out an item. Spending time with her while shopping is a great way to spend quality time with her.  Besides, is there a woman that doesn't enjoy shopping in some way?

Some furniture and home furnishings stores will even have special incentives for coming in on Mothers Day. It may be a single rose of carnation for mom or a small free gift just for stopping by!

You can expect furniture stores to advertise chairs, chests, accent tables, hallway tables and curio or collectible cabinets with some very low price points. Don't be surprised to see items advertised for $99 or less with the caveat of while supplies last or limited quantities. Arrive early as some of these may be truly great deals. Is  this really any different than your local grocery store putting milk and bread on special?

If you aren't able to be with your mother or live a distance away, you  can also consider shopping on oline at places like Overstock.com and Wayfair. Both of these sites have nice selections of small furniture items for the home. Here are some nice examples from Overstock.com

Happy Mother's Day!
p.s. don't forget to "call your mom"
