Wool rugs fall short in some areas where synthetic rugs hold fast: Synthetic rugs are also resistant to sunlight and resistant to mildew making them the better choice where there is potential for environmental elements.

Still, despite these moderate shortcomings, many people choose wool rugs because of the texture. While synthetic fibers can be quite coarse to the touch, wool rugs are always warm and soft. The only downside to wool rugs is that they require a bit more attention and care.  See this video on area rugs basics-cleaning and care.
